Bahir Dar and Blue Nile Falls

Million told us he would pick us up at 5am on the morning of August 2d to head to the airport, where we would catch an early flight to Bahir Dar.  For some reason, probably just the excitement of the trip, Thomas and I were not able to sleep the night before.  Thomas slept maybe two hours; I didn't sleep at all.  Around 3:30am, we both decided just to get up, shower, pack, and be ready when Million arrived.  Million arrived early (at 4:30am), and we go to the airport by 5:00.  As it turned out, however, our flight didn't leave until 7:30; so we cooled our heals in the airport for 2 and 1/2 hours.

When did finally arrive in Bahir Dar, the airport did not inspire confidence.  The terminal was under construction.  And baggage claim was found inside a corrugated metal building with a concrete floor.

This is the terminal.  Like most buildings under construction in Ethiopia, the scaffolding is made of wooden poles.
Baggage claim.

On the road to our hotel.  More of the same below.

Below is a shot of Thomas and me on a bridge built in the 1600s by the Portugese, when they came to help fight the Muslims from the north.  The bridge is on the route to the Blue Nile Falls

Here we are at the falls.
