On our second day in Gondar, a driver took us to the Semien Mountains. When we got there, we picked up two guides, one of whom was an older gentleman dressed in what appeared to be either a military or a park ranger uniform. And he was carrying an old rifle, like an AK-47 or something. When we asked him why, he said it was for shooting any unruly hyenas, leopards, or baboons.
When we reached the top of the mountain, which they told us was the second highest peak in Africa, we were allowed out of the car to roam the countryside. There we bought a couple of small items from the children who lived in the huts along our route, and we eventually saw the famous Semien Mountain baboons.

| There must have been a hundred baboons. This was one of the larger ones. |
